Hawkridge Woods Walk – Lime Kiln 2025

A short walk exploring woodland around Hawkridge Reserviour. There is evidence of 23 lime kilns in the Quantock Hills, with this one at Hawkridge being the only fully restored example. In its time it would have produced between five and eight tons of lime a day. The kiln faces into the prevailing wind and has ‘wings’ in order to catch maximum draught.
