One of only a handful of lighthouses built inland, standing 127ft (38m) high in the middle of the seaside town. The base of the lighthouse features RNLI and HM Coastguard exhibits, displays and old photographs. Local history room with photos, documents and models from Withernsea’s past including the Queens Hotel and the railway station.

Rather unusually it was built a quarter of a mile back from the coast with much of the town closer to the sea than the lighthouse. However when the lighthouse was built there were only sand dunes and a mere in front of it. The houses you see today were all built after the promenade was extended along the sea front.
