The windmill is owned by the London Borough of Havering and managed by the Friends of Upminster Windmill.

James Nokes built the smock mill in 1803 with 'common' sails, comprising of wooden frames covered with canvas. And is one of the finest in the country, and has a rich history.

The full restoration project was started back in 2016 and is now complete with a new visitor centre where you can learn all about the mill and its history.
