The railway opened in 1986 as an out and back route, and since then has grown into a full loop, with a large collection of engines and coaches and one of the busiest signal boxes used in the miniature railway world.
The railway has two stations. The main station New Barn, now painted in Southern Railway colours is located close to the playgrounds, boating lake and Cafe, while the other station Swanley Parkway is located next to the main car park for the park. Most of our trains contain a luggage wagon to enable the transport of prams, picnics and luggage, especially useful in saving effort from getting from the car park to main area. On a busy sunny day, normally three trains are in operation operated from our extensive fleet of engines. Meaning an average departure interval of three minutes.
Steam trains are more likely to operate at weekends, depending on volunteer and engine availability, with our mighty over scale diesels based on famous BR diesels normally in charge the train.
The main station also incorporates a large turn table, upon which all engines are turned at the end of the trip. In sight of the station is the railway signal box Holborn Crossing, containing an ex BR westinghouse miniature frame.
