Built in 1946, 'SS Freshspring' was the last of 14 Fresh Class water carriers to be built for the Admiralty, all of which were powered by a triple expansion steam engine. Now looked after in Bideford's Heritage Harbour by a charity with the ultimate intention of returning her to steam.

Her duty was to replenish Naval ships with fresh water for use in boilers. She also acted as a fire tender when required. The sole survivor of the class, she is now being restored as a visitor attraction as part of a plan to return her to working condition in the future. A new wheelhouse has been fitted and makes her resplendent.
