Rockley Furnace & Engine House 2025

The furnace was built around 1700 to smelt the local iron ore. The engine house, built from sandstone once housed a Newcomen type pumping engine. With its castellated top, it now looks a little like a folly. It has a date stone from 1813, but it is thought that the mine predates this.
