Foxton Locks is one of the top sites on the canal, with a 10 lock staircase and remains of the steam driven Victorian Barge lift. The museum tells the story of the locks, lift and local waterways. The unique 10 lock staircase with side ponds are 200 years old. Up to 50 boats a day pass through the locks. The boat lift opened in 1900 as part of a scheme to widen the canal. The museum uses modern interactive displays to tell the local story and that the wider inland waterways.

The museum has won several awards and we have regular temporary exhibitions so every visit can be different.

We also hold a substantial waterways archive.
