West Hill Cliff Railway 2025

The historic 133 year old cliff railway retains its original wooden Victorian carriages, and runs through a tunnel, which is very unusual for a funicular railway!

It was originally powered by a 40hp Crossley gas engine when it first opened in 1891, and later replaced by a Tangye diesel engine in 1924, but then changed to an electric motor in 1971.
