Robert Smail’s Printing Works 2025

A unique example of Letterpress Printing Heritage. Visitors will see the original Shop, Office, Caseroom and Machine Room and discover the fascinating history of the Smail family, their business and the town of Innerleithen. Hands-on activities and live demonstrations of letterpress equipment and machinery.

The printing works was established in the town of Innerleithen in 1866 and in its 150th year, still produces letterpress stationery on its original presses. In addition to the industrial heritage on display, visitors will also see parts of the archives and collections hoarded by the Smail's over three generations.
