There are many interesting examples of old rural industries such as milling and farming; with jobs like blacksmiths and wheelwrights, which existed in the area until the 1950s. The town has always been associated with the sea and fishing, with its village dating back to the 13th century.

Eyemouth was the only safe landing place on the coast of Berwickshire. The trades that complemented the fishing industry were coopering, net and rope-making, as well as the work, are graphically illustrated with photographs and artefacts.
