Today, it is a popular heritage visitor attraction offering visitors a unique experience to discover one of Wainwright's favourite journeys, traversing seven miles from the coast, through iconic woodland and mountain scenery. There are four steam engines in regular service including the oldest working 15in. locomotive in the world, River Irt.

With excellent facilities at both ends of the line and a choice of open and closed carriages, make this a great day inside and out whatever the weather! The line connects with many different lakeland trails, walks and other points of interest so take advantage of our ride all ticket and get on/off as many times as you like. You can watch the engines turn on the turntables whilst enjoying home made special at our cafes and look out as you travel for the plumes of steam at various passing points, get those cameras at the ready !
