The museum is located on the site of the former Backbarrow Blue Mill, which closed in the early 1980s and is best remembered for the manufacture of the washing additive Ultramarine Pigment, often referred to as Dolly Blue. The Leven Valley Heritage Centre is an integral part of an overall amazing experience and tells the story of working life in the Blue Mill, the iron works, the gunpowder mills and woodland industries.

The displays include many realistic mannequins, including a Women's Land Army Girl with a 1940s tractor, Allied Forces with a WW2 Willys Jeep and a 1920s Gangster evocative of America's prohibition era.

The museum pays tribute to the racing Campbells, Sir Malcolm and son Donald who between them captured 21 World Land and Water speed records.

Something for everyone and much more than just a motor museum.
