Strathpeffer Station was originally built in 1885, closing to passengers in 1946 and to freight in 1951. It then continued in use as a coal yard and other businesses but became derelict in the late 1970s. After renovation in 1980 it had a new lease of life as a cinema, shops, café and museums.
