This Grade II* Listed windmill has recently been fully restored along with the tearooms. It is said that, "The view out to the coast from the first floor of the visitor’s centre is one of the best you will find in Sunderland and hope people of all ages can visit the site to enjoy it for many years to come."

It opened in 1808, at a cost to Joseph Swan, a local shipbuilder of £900 to build, and was a working mill of five floors until the 1950s.
