Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre 2025

The last surviving railway roundhouse in the United Kingdom with an operational turntable. Built in 1870, it was threatened with demolition in 1991 when the site was closed by British Rail. It was saved by a group of dedicated volunteers who have transformed it into a unique railway museum and events venue.

The Barrow Hill signal box will be open for demonstrations, where visitors will be able to experience for themselves the complexities of the interlock system and other signalling mysteries. The signal box is also a marvellous spot for taking photographs, thanks to its bird’s eye view of the Barrow Hill yard. The very popular turntable demonstrations will also continue.
