Sat 25th Jul 2026 Thomas Newcomen Steam Festival

A new steam festival in Dartmouth. Named after Thomas Newcomen, the inventor of the first commercially viable atmospheric steam engine.

Showcasing atmospheric steam, steam locomotion (we are across the river from Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat our heritage railway and down the road from South Devon Railway), traction engines and marine steam. We have quite a history of shipbuilding and marine steam including paddle steamers for around the world and we also have PS Kingswear Castle the last coal fired paddler in the UK in operation on the River Dart. PS Waverley visits twice a year and we're hoping to get a steam ship or a steam tug for the festival as well as the confirmed small steam boats .
