Zetland Lifeboat Museum & Redcar Heritage Centre 2025

The 'Zetland' is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world and is listed within the National Historic Ship Register as part of the Nations Historic Fleet, and was built in 1802 by Henry Greathead at his South Shields boatyard. Other exhibits include replica fisherman’s cottage and a gallery of model ships and artefacts.

While Zetland is long retired, she is still amid the community that she served. Her existence is a physical reminder of past times when ‘going to sea’ was infinitely more dangerous than it is today, she is extremely important in both her design and area of usage.
