The station was reopened on the 28th February 2009 nearly 50 years after it was closed to passengers on 2nd March 1959. The main intention is to restore the station to its former glory which includes re-laying of track and sidings, acquiring rolling stock and set up a museum relating to the station and The Midland & Great Northern Railway.
