The RAF donated Spitfire RW388 to Stoke-on-Trent in 1972. The aeroplane is a symbol of great design and engineering. It represents the link between Stoke-on-Trent and the Spitfire’s designer, Reginald Joseph Mitchell.
He was born and educated in north Staffordshire and designed 24 different aeroplanes during his career including flying boats, high-speed racing seaplanes, and the Supermarine Spitfire.
