Quendale Water Mill 2025

Situated in a sheltered valley in Quendale, Dunrossness, the mill is in the middle of a working farm and is the last remaining industrial building of its era in Shetland. Guided tours of the mill and displays of local history, including an extensive collection of agricultural tools and machinery.

Its primary purpose was to handle the grain for crofters from a very wide surrounding area. Most of the grinding was done in winter when there was plenty of water in the dam to drive the mill’s machinery.
