Mid-Suffolk Light Railway 2024

A section of the railway at Brockford has been recreated with original station buildings which capture the atmosphere of this quirky line. Today’s ‘Middy’ is not only a museum but runs regular steam trains and has a programme of carriage and wagon restoration complementing its efforts to recreate this slice of Edwardian England.

The museum has all the modern facilities expected of a museum today (it has full MLA accreditation) and on many open days it is a static museum, enabling a relaxed viewing of the photo collection, artefacts, buildings and restored rolling stock.

On event days, the steam train operates on the demonstration line. The carriages are restored Victorian Great Eastern 4-wheelers so visitors can experience what it was like to travel on the 'Middy', as the MSLR was known.

Visitors can enjoy the trackside walk, but for safety reasons only on days when the steam train is not operating.

Guided tours of the engineering facilities are organised so that current projects can be viewed.
