Maldegem-Eeklo Steam Railway 2026
What began as the dream of a few enthusiasts in the 1980s has grown into Flanders’ largest heritage railway collection. Today, steam and diesel trains once again run along part of the former line 58 between Maldegem and Eeklo – offering a unique experience for visitors of all ages.

At Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo, visitors can not only ride historic trains, but also explore Maldegem station, take a look inside the workshop, and truly experience the atmosphere of the past. In addition to regular operating days, they organise various events throughout the year.
The organisation is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time and care to preserving and restoring historic railway equipment. From vintage locomotives to charming carriages – everything is lovingly maintained and brought back to life for rides and events.
In 2025, we received a special recognition: we are now officially recognised as an open heritage site. This means that we don’t just operate a railway – we preserve a piece of living heritage that is accessible to everyone.
