The entrance and reception through the cottage door leads to the museum, which contains many large displays, models and artefacts. Follow the history of Lowestoft from the creation of the port, through the heyday of the fishing industry, and the boatbuilding era, through to the modern day, all told through a variety of pictures, photographs, exhibits and audio/video.

Features include a replica fish market with Prunier Trophy, a wheelhouse, a drifter cabin, a reconstruction of Sir Christopher Cockerell's workshop (the inventor of the hovercraft), First and Second World War displays and an audio visual room, with short films on various aspects of the town's history.
