The railway, based in Bridgend, South Wales, is currently in its building stages. In the last 12 months, volunteers have laid an extra 100m of track and a dedicated group of younger volunteers have taken on and largely completed work on the superstructure of their Shark Brake Van. It also saw the completion of a public consultation for the proposed for the Garw Valley Heritage Centre, for which there is considerable support.

It continues to work with funders to reach the next stage of the project which is currently in its application process with the Heritage Lottery Fund. The aim of the Centre will be to teach about the Garw Valley's history, the growth of its coal mining heritage and how the railway played its part in this growth.

The railway is home to various pieces of rolling stock which are in different stages of restoration. Such as Pamela a Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST, two FC Hibberd Planets locomotives 4006 and 3890 and a 108 DMU, BR M52048.

The railway played a vital part in this development of the valley and the coal industry that shaped the South Wales Valleys.
